Page Properties : How to configure your Pages for search engines
 

Summary : Web pages will be better categorised by search engine robots if the page properties are fully utilised.

Recommendation : For each web page, make use of the keywords, description, author, and cache control aspects you can specify.

Changing Page Properties

The following is a short pictorial guide to accessing and changing your web page properties.

First, for the web page you are working on, right click and select page properties.



When you click on 'add' a little box will popup, and from here you will need to enter in the 'name' and 'value' for each aspect. In the example screenshot shown below, you can see how 'keywords' would be entered.



Keywords

Keywords are one way to indicate to a search engine what your pages are about. However, not that many search engines take account

To make use of keywords.... you should set Name ' Keywords'      Value '   .....   ' contains the words you want to describe your page, which must be spaced with commas.
* Note that many search engines will dismiss ALL keywords if they are frequently repeated, or if there are simply too many. Try to keep your list to about 15-20 words maximum.



Description

The description should be concise , no more than 150-200 characters max, describing the topic of the web pages.

To enter a description, click on 'add' in the lower section of the page properties section, as shown below...


 



Author/Copyright


Most web pages are rarely authored, although it can be good to at least have your name/company reference attached to any pages you create. You can also add a 'copyright' variable, especially useful for official company sites.

Keywords in your web pages : The words you have in your keywords listing, should be closely related to the keywords of your actual page content.
