Summary

UK population has been relatively stable at around 55-60 million for the last few decades. Despite claims that 'mass immigration' has ruined UK culture from various Nazi-minded political factions, the population of  the UK has lately been 'topping out'. Even if current immigration continues, it will have a relatively irrelevant effect on total population levels on a national level.

With many people now living into their 80's and beyond, and with fewer people of working age, the UK is facing a serious economic and social problem - the demographic timebomb. Most western societies, including much of Europe, America, and some countries in the far east are each facing a population bomb of some magnitude.

The question is whether the general populace are going to quite literally going to start making more babies, or if they are happy to see a demographic timebomb explode in their faces sometime during the next 25-40 years.

Conclusion

Contrary to some opinion, the UK is far from being overcrowded. Only around 10% of the UK's land mass is urbanised - a figure that would probably surprise your average neo-Nazi who believes the UK is overflowing with hundreds of millions of euro-refugees.

What would seem wise of all future Western governments - including the United Kingdoms, would be to do everything possible to get the birth rate back up to the '2.1' level - whereby population will remain stable across  the long term. Some may well say that government should not attempt to manipulate the population levels, yet if the UK is to avoid some critical demographic disaster, then more babies are necessary !

So, have you contributed your 2.1 children towards keeping the nation's population stable at 60 million ?

Yours
Calrissian: Yet to get married, never mind any babies !
