some sniping challages

Postby Joetrek123 on Sat Dec 20, 2008 3:26 am

I was on a sniping game the other day playing on a map called Suez Canal. The game rules were: not to cross 50% of the map, if you do you get ban, and to only kill with sniping. Assault could heal and revive, but not kill (to which it would be very hard to even see the target). And finally no other kits.

The problem that I had with this server was that all of the sniping was long distance; this mint that I couldn't hit a target over 180m, and most of my targets were way over 230m. Some people on the game complained saying that they couldn't see them, but that wasn't case. It had to do with a little known thing called bullet drop. Bullets in this game start to drop at or around 170m and farther out. To compensate for this issue there are little lines on the cross hires that allow you to make the current adjustment manually. Here is a pic of what the lines mean.

Ranges beyond that are very hard to commit to. My farthest range was over 353, and still there are people who claim to hit even farther.

One other thing that I never knew til now was the whole stabilizer gear piece that suppose to make your shots a whole better. When you put it on your suppose to hold down on the shift key and you will have this little time bar will show on your scope screen. Right then your scope stays perfectly still for a few seconds. If you have to make a long distance shot this helps a lot. However, if you miss you have to wait until your stabilizer recharges.
Once last thing about the stabilizer kit is that it works on all of the recon guns, even the lamber. However, the lamber needs to be set to semi shot, and you might only get about 5 shots before it's over. Also you can start out equip with the stabilizer and just pick up another recon kit and still have the stabilizer effect, even if that other recon kit has something totally different.

I hope these short tips make the game play more enjoyable. Cheers

ello Joe !

I was on that map with you, but very briefly.

I just find it too tempting to hop in an APC and start firing the mortor

Besides, I'm an awful sniper, I got no patience for sitting there and trying to figure out if the dark smudge in the far distance is nothing...or the enemy.
--

Great guide though. I didn't realise snipers could fire that far, never mind the 'dropping bullet'.

Suez is a great map though, especially for tanks.

Sniping is easy. it's all about Location Location Location. I always play on maps that have FF off, so that I can RDX bunny hop. I'm now good at getting on top of towers and roof tops. Even right on top of enemy roof tops without them knowing where the shots are coming form. Also Wait for them to slow down before committing to the shot. People will always stand still for a moment to shot at you or at other players. so that's where you make that good head shot.

I practice on the single player mode to help my skills.

so use the triple L tactic, and don't camp at the same place all the time or stay there to long.

oh yes, please do add me !

My soldier name is...(no surprise) Mighty_Santa

Do say hello to me on yahoo or msn, so we can arrange a few online games together. That would be great since I really don't know many who have the game.

I really do quite like 2142 a lot, but its way better with a reasonable little team working together. Hope to hear back from you on this Midnight !

Oh yeah the APC. what I call the big boy toy car( or Buggy). Well yeah I do get killed by those vehicles every now again. If I'm squad leader I often just come back with a cloaking device in hand, some RDX's, and a big smile on my face once I have about four of those RDX's lined up on your side. Some times I will just jump out in front of the APC, wave good bye, and press the big button. Often enough people will start swearing at me, and calling me Noob after I have done this a couple of times.

So santa don't turn on the heat warming chairs with vibrate mood on. As I will make you drop your scolding hot cup of coffee form inside it's nice little cup holder while you freak out over the sights of me. and my demo packs in hand.

okay, well, I will certainly be around, on msn, and often in the game. Add me to your buddy list in the online interface for 2142, and if I'm in a game, It'll show/take you to the game I'm in - although not necessarily on the same team.
--

Joe, it does sound you are a bit of bunny hopping RDX'er. I'll be ready with the Mortor !

Yes I am. I love bunny hopping. You can find glitches on the map the hide in, and well just to put it simply there are hundreds of areas I can hide in just by jumping out of reach of the enemy.

also as a sniper DOn't try to cap the flags or come up on enemy lines unless your doing a suicide mission. Because snipers/recon were made for long distance.

If the enemy is coming closer to your location, there are a few things you can do to stop them. One is to go for head shots, second place RDX's if you can do so without getting shot at, or run back and hid.

Let say you see a enemy squad come right at you, There are jumping in and out of the rail road cars that are line up on this map. You on top of a cat walk trying to snipe them. First thing you so is report their position as they make there advances. Snipe one of them. I always try to aim for the guy who is leading the group for that might be the squad leader. once that happens move your tail. Because usually players will help other players especially if their leader goes down.

So if they stop to revive the fallen player then that you can move farther back form where the new front lines will develop.

The point here is the never be to close to the front lines, you can change where the enemy goes by reporting their sights. Other players will move in (on a good game).

Head shot once again are prime. If you feel you can stop the set of players form moving into kill range on their behalf, then do it and you will earn a lot of points. However, moving to late will turn you into a target, and not moving at all and failing to take them out while shooting at them, will get you kill as the enemy set will sooner or later look up and spot you.
